Apellix NDT

A Non-destructive Examination Field Services and Technology Demonstration Group

Specializing in Automated UT and DFT
Drone Measurements on Storage Tanks and Stacks

It's about... the data

The Apellix Nondestructive Testing aerial robotic system gathers a breadth and depth of data heretofore unavailable easily importable into Preventative Maintenance Checks and Services (PCMS), and other systems.

It's about... performance

With performance rates of 20x or more, the Apellix Nondestructive Testing system frees engineers from the arduous task of collecting steel and paint thickness measurement data thus allowing them to focus on what is important.

It's about... value creation

The Apellix Nondestructive Testing aerial robotic system can test assets such as storage vessels and flare stacks while they are in service allowing for both visual assessment (via HD video) and wall thickness measurements (via UT readings).

It's about... safety

Using the Apellix Nondestructive Testing aerial robotic systems allows you to keep workers on the ground, safe, and out of harm's way. It also avoids the need to drive lifts or other equipment to the job site.

How We Work

Operating as a data provider

We serve as a data provider for dry film thickness (DFT) and ultrasonic wall thickness (UT) measurements. We provide and operate the Apellix Nondestructive Testing aerial robotic systems and include an experienced, fully outfitted & insured crew.

We then operate under the direction of asset owners or engineering service providers and produce a full digital record and report of all activities.

Operating as an engineering firm

As an engineering service provider, in addition to the Apellix Nondestructive Testing system and crew, we bring licensed accredited professionals with AWS, NACE, SSPC, API, and other certifications.

We then operate under the direction of the licensed professionals and provide a full digital record, report, and maintenance recommendation, perfect for nondestructive examination and NDE 4.0 uses.

Single jobs or pilot projects

Hire Apellix for a day, multiple days, a week, or more as either a data provider or engineering service provider. This includes traditional NDT/NDE and specialty projects.

For longer-term and custom needs enter into a pilot project with pre-specified outcomes and deliverables with the end goal including a custom, or standard, Apellix Nondestructive Testing your team will be trained on for them to use and deploy.

Award-Winning Disruptive Technology

The Apellix Nondestructive Testing (dry film thickness) aerial robotic system is a National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) Innovation of the Year winner.

Some examples...

The Apellix Nondestructive systems autonomously collect data similar to what is shown here. In this example, the aircraft pilot flies up to the structure engages the software and the aircraft then takes readings in a vertical line approximately every .25 meters (10") stopping at the top of the tank and waiting for the pilot to manually fly it to the next location and re-engage the software.

---

The Apellix Nondestructive Testing systems have received hot work permits to complete UT measurements in Hazardous Spaces such as UL Class 1 Division 2 / ATEX Zone 2 by integrating onboard gas and LEL sensors to ensure there are no explosive gases in the vicinity of where it is flying.

In addition to the measurements being collected live and streamed in real-time to the engineers on the ground, the Apellix Nondestirctive Testing systems provide data for post-flight reports, and via the onboard application, and programming interface the data can be directly imported into Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as SAP, JD Edwards EnterPrise One, AkzoNobel's Interplan, and others. It can also be streamed live into Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS), Integrity Management Systems (IMS), and more. Data can also be placed in the secure Apellix Data Repository.

Our Opus X4 NDE industrial drones have 27-kilo (60 lb) of thrust , with battery-only or ground power (tethered), a multimodal sensor array, a full onboard computer, and a user interface for the engineer with critical data and video display for pilot & observer

Jeremy Countryman, UAS Engineer and Pilot

We've engineered this system to conduct testing with in service assets (e.g., flare stacks, ASTs) with 2-5 measurements per minute; a benchmark of over 100 measurements per hour (20x standard), able to operate in 15 kt winds (maximum), in GPS-denied areas, and up to 100 meters (under ideal conditions)
